Biography: WILLIAM BAINBRIGGE did not belong to any British or Irish University. He was a Chaplain in the Royal Navy who happened to be on duty with his ship in the Madras roads when a Chaplain at the Fort was required. He was appointed locally in July 1777. He died at Fort St. George in 1783 and was buried in the St. Mary's cemetery. In 1780 he was married by his colleague, the Rev. John Stanley, to Elizabeth Wellton.
